Norfolk Southern teams are responding to events impacting our network: a derailment in Tennessee, which occurred on June 11, and severe weather in our Northern and Central region, which occurred on June 11 and significantly exceeded the duration and intensity forecasted. Our top priority remains the safety of our response teams and the communities, as well as the secure movement of your freight.

 

Who is impacted: The Tennessee incident is currently impacting network traffic moving through the following lanes:

  • East Tennessee <> Memphis
  • East Tennessee <> Chattanooga

 

Service has already resumed, but the severe weather impacted network traffic moving through the following lanes:

  • Chicago <> Toledo
  • Chicago <> Bellevue 
  • Detroit <> Cincinnati 

 

How we’re responding in Tennessee: While crews work to safely restore service as quickly as possible in East Tennessee, we are rerouting traffic across the Norfolk Southern network and, when needed, via partner railroads. Our team is actively managing network flows and prioritizing recovery efforts to bring the routes back online and minimize residual impacts as efficiently as possible once service is restored.
