Significant Winter Weather Alert

ATLANTA, GA

Norfolk Southern is monitoring and preparing for another significant winter storm which is expected to impact eastern Kentucky & Tennessee, the Appalachians, Virginia, the Carolinas, and eastern Georgia from Friday night through Sunday morning with snow, high winds, and sub-freezing temperatures.

 

Snowfall totals of 4-8 inches are forecasted along the eastern Appalachian foothills in the Western Carolinas and Virginia, with localized 6–12 inches along the coast of North Carolina and southern Virginia. Wind gusts of 20-30 mph are expected across the system Saturday morning through Sunday evening with sub-freezing temperatures and wind chills, especially in the Appalachian region.

 

NS is proactively preparing equipment, scheduling crews, and evaluating customer and terminal impacts to combat the impacts of this event. At this time, all Norfolk Southern Intermodal facilities are operating, and no terminal or gate closures are planned.Customers are strongly encouraged to review local forecasts and Department of Transportation information for updates regarding conditions in their local areas.
