Answering the call: Celebrating our Police Communications professionals
Norfolk Southern’s Police Communications team serves a vital role in the safety of our operations, helping to protect our colleagues, customers, and communities every day of the year. During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on the essential work they do — 24/7, 365 days a year.
Based in our Atlanta HQ, the Police Communications Center (PCC) is the hub for:
- Communicating with ~160 field agents across 22 states
- Coordinating responses with local, state, and federal agencies
- Managing security for sensitive shipments
- Monitoring over 27,000 miles of track and 22,000+ grade crossings
The team brings years of law enforcement dispatch experience — and undergoes rigorous, hands-on training to support NS operations with speed, clarity, and excellence.
“They’re often among the unsung heroes of our railroad — quietly doing crucial work each and every day,” said NSPD Director Chris Stanley. “Their professionalism, dedication, and teamwork make a real difference in the safety of our operations and the communities we serve. We’re proud to recognize them this week, and grateful for everything they do year-round.”
The team also brings a strong sense of camaraderie to the job. During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, that includes a little fun with themed days.

Thank you to the entire team for all you do to keep our people, freight, and network safe!
