Nonprofits: Apply for up to $50,000 in grants from Norfolk Southern

Applications are open through Sept. 1. The programs support organizations in the 22 states where we operate.
Who can apply? Tax-exempt nonprofits and government entities that align with the pillars of Norfolk Southern’s community impact program: safety, sustainability, workforce development, and thriving communities.
- Safety First grants go up to $15,000, funding organizations that promote safe behavior.
- Thriving Communities grants go up to $50,000 for organizations that create vibrant communities and provide access to basic life necessities.
In 2024, Norfolk Southern provided over $6.3 million to more than 400 organizations across 250 cities where we operate. Highlights include:
Safety: Replacing the firefighting foam in Springfield, Illinois, for the fire department’s Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team.
Sustainability: Protecting land along the 25-mile lower Appomattox River corridor through invasive plant management by Friends of the Lower Appomattox River Inc. in Petersburg, Virginia.
Workforce Development: Funding skilled labor and job readiness training through the City Fields Workforce Development program in Cleveland, Tennessee.
Thriving Communities: Supporting Hope Atlanta in its mission to assist unhoused individuals or those at risk of losing stable housing through rapid rehousing, rental assistance, utility deposits, and comprehensive case management support.
