What they’re saying

“Norfolk Southern and the Elizabeth River Project share a longstanding commitment to a healthier Elizabeth River. This living shoreline reflects that enduring partnership and the dedication of employees who have championed it along the way. By restoring shoreline habitat and supporting oysters that help filter the river’s waters, Norfolk Southern is demonstrating what’s possible along a working waterfront and giving other businesses a tangible example to learn from.” - Lacy Shirey, Executive Director, Elizabeth River Project

The big picture

The Living Shoreline shows how long-term partnerships can create lasting benefits for both the environment and the communities we serve. By combining natural infrastructure with thoughtful environmental stewardship, the project strengthens shoreline resilience, supports wildlife habitat, and helps protect critical rail infrastructure along the Elizabeth River.

The newly announced $100,000 contribution will help the Elizabeth River Project continue building on that progress, supporting future restoration efforts and advancing a partnership that has helped improve the river for more than three decades.
