Norfolk Southern has been selected as Trees Atlanta’s Corporate Tree Champion of the Year — a recognition that reflects our long-standing commitment to Atlanta’s urban forest.

Why this matters: Protecting the city’s tree canopy is essential to the health, resilience, and future of the neighborhoods where we live and work.

Zooming in: Through a nearly decade-long partnership with Trees Atlanta, our employees regularly volunteer on planting, restoration, and tree care projects in Proctor Creek, Piedmont Park, Inman Park, and along the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum Westside Trail. Highlights include:

  • One of the first corporate sponsors of Youth Tree Team, starting in 2017.
  • Continued support to expand the nonprofit’s training program for young adults who are seeking careers in urban forestry and environmental conservation.
  • Sponsoring “Root Ball,” Trees Atlanta’s annual fundraiser.

Zooming out: Supporting Trees Atlanta aligns with NS’ focus on sustainability, including nature-based solutions. From South Carolina wetlands to the Virginia coast and beyond, NS continues to expand decades-long conservation efforts driving sustainable land use and enhancing biodiversity.
