We follow through on our commitments – to East Palestine, to the surrounding communities, to our employees, and to ourselves. We have completed site restoration activities and continue our mission of delivering a stronger future for the area.
In addition to providing financial assistance to residents and businesses, we’re investing in all aspects of civic life. That includes $25 million for updates and renovations to East Palestine City Park, over $3 million to the city Fire Department, and a $500,000 grant toward economic development.
We set up a Family Assistance Center in East Palestine in the days after the derailment to help impacted residents, including providing reimbursement for expenses related to lodging, travel, food, and clothes. The center remains open and will be available in coordination with our local community partners.
Under the oversight of the U.S. and Ohio EPA, we have completed remediation work around the site, including the excavation and off-site disposal of impacted soil in the derailment zone. Environmental testing, in coordination with and alongside U.S. and Ohio EPA, has shown the air, soil, and drinking water in the community are safe.
