Norfolk Southern awards $100,000 grant to Atlanta Community Food Bank

Funding will help provide nutritious food to children and families across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

ATLANTA, Ga., October 19, 2026 – Norfolk Southern has awarded a $100,000 grant to the Atlanta Community Food Bank through the company's Thriving Communities Grant Program to help expand access to nutritious food for children and families across metro Atlanta and north Georgia through the Food Bank's School Pantry Program and child nutrition initiatives.

Why it matters
Food insecurity continues to affect families across metro Atlanta and north Georgia. The Atlanta Community Food Bank estimates the grant will help provide up to 300,000 meals through its School Pantry Program and child nutrition initiatives.

Norfolk Southern has supported the Atlanta Community Food Bank through financial contributions and employee volunteerism. During Fiscal Year 2025, Norfolk Southern employees volunteered more than 200 hours to sort food and prepare distributions for individuals and families in need.

The grant is funded through Norfolk Southern's Thriving Communities Grant Program, which supports nonprofits advancing safety, sustainability, workforce development, and community resilience. Through these investments, Norfolk Southern helps strengthen communities across its 22-state network.

What they're saying
"Access to healthy food is fundamental to helping children and families thrive. The Atlanta Community Food Bank plays a vital role in addressing food insecurity across our hometown communities, and we are proud to support a program that helps connect families with the resources they need to build a stronger future.” - Kristin Wong, Director NS Foundation & Community Impact.

"Across metro Atlanta and north Georgia, many parents are working hard and still coming up short at the grocery store. Being able to access food at their children's schools meets them in a place they already know and trust. Norfolk Southern has supported this work with funding and with its own people, and this grant will help us provide more families with reliable access to food.
