Nonprofits: Time is running out for a Norfolk Southern grant of up to $50K

There’s still time to apply for a Norfolk Southern grant to help bring your organization’s initiatives to life in the communities we serve across 22 states — just a few weeks remain. So far this year, over 810 organizations have applied, and over $1.5M has been awarded.

Who can apply? Tax-exempt nonprofits and government entities that align with the pillars of Norfolk Southern’s community impact program: safety, sustainability, workforce development, and thriving communities.

  • Safety First grants typically go up to $15,000, funding organizations that promote safe behavior.
  • Thriving Communities grants typically go up to $50,000 for organizations that create vibrant communities, provide access to basic life necessities, provide sustainability, or help create jobs.

In 2024, Norfolk Southern provided over $6 million to more than 400 organizations across 250 cities where we operate. Recent highlights include:

  • Safety: A grant to M-PAC Cleveland for a mobile healing and trauma response unit used for immediate crisis intervention.
  • Sustainability: Funding to The Scouting America, Laurel Highlands Council, for a stream restoration project to remove debris, reseed, and replant native trees at Camp Guyasuta in Pittsburgh.
  • Workforce Development: Supported financial literacy to high school students in Jefferson County, Alabama, through the Consumer Financial Education Foundation of America in Birmingham.
  • Thriving Communities: Assisting unhoused individuals or those at risk of losing stable housing through rapid rehousing, rental assistance, utility deposits, and comprehensive case management with Hope Atlanta.
