On the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Norfolk Southern employees came together in Atlanta to honor a National Day of Service and Remembrance by helping provide meals for neighbors facing food insecurity.
The Atlanta event, hosted by 911 Day and sponsored by Norfolk Southern, brought together 50 NS employees and volunteers from across the community to pack 356,400 meals for neighbors facing food insecurity.
Why it matters: September 11 is a day to remember those who were lost and honor the first responders, recovery workers, service members, and volunteers who stepped forward in the aftermath. Twenty-five years later, acts of service continue that legacy by bringing people together to support their communities.
A nationwide day of service
The Atlanta meal pack was part of a nationwide effort expected to bring together 50,000 volunteers to pack more than 18 million meals across more than 50 U.S. cities.
For Norfolk Southern employees, the afternoon offered a meaningful way to mark the anniversary alongside colleagues and community members.
