2025 HIGHLIGHTS

Continuing a commitment made in 2021, $1 million was awarded to 75 Hampton Roads, Virginia nonprofits, furthering the goal of providing $5 million to the community over five years.

Building safer, stronger hometowns with $6.1 million in grants

In 2025, we awarded $6.1M through the Thriving Communities and Safety First grant programs, supporting 402 organizations in 22 states and 219 cities across our network. These grants have provided over $17M in funding since launching in 2023 for initiatives in sustainability, housing stability, community well-being, and public safety.

Norfolk Southern commits over $1 million to fight food insecurity

In 2025, Norfolk Southern demonstrated strong engagement during National Hunger Action Month across the NS network. The company contributed 334 employee volunteer hours at six locations and awarded 53 grants totaling over $1 million to support hunger relief initiatives.

Holiday Train brings cheer to communities across New York

In December 2025, Norfolk Southern continued our partnership with Toys for Tots New York Capital Region and Amtrak to spread holiday cheer across five local communities. The effort included a community event in Binghamton, NY that drew hundreds of attendees, along with a $50,000 donation to the Toys for Tots Foundation, reinforcing NS’s commitment to giving back to the communities where employees live and work.

Norfolk Southern celebrates the achievements of railroaders' children by awarding over 100 scholarships

As part of our Thoroughbred Scholars program, NS has committed over $4.5M in scholarship funds to promote educational opportunities to children of our employees.

Building homes and hope across our network

In November 2025, in honor of Homelessness Awareness Month, Norfolk Southern donated nearly $1.7 million to organizations addressing housing insecurity. Employees across the network also contributed more than 545 volunteer hours to build or improve nine homes in multiple communities, reinforcing our commitment to creating safe, stable housing.
