Norfolk Southern Recognized as a Top Veteran Employer

Norfolk Southern’s commitment to supporting and empowering military veterans in the workforce has earned the company recognition from three military support groups as a top employer for veterans of the armed forces.
This month, Norfolk Southern was named a Top 25 Employer for Veterans by Military.com, a silver-rated employer by Military-Friendly® Companies, and a Best for Vets employer by Military Times magazine.
The awards recognize employers that meet or exceed standards related to the recruiting, hiring, and training of veterans and spotlight companies that go above and beyond when it comes to serving veteran employees.
“It’s an honor to be recognized as a top employer for veterans,” said Annie Adams, Executive Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer at Norfolk Southern. “The skills and experience that current and former servicemembers bring with them into their work here at Norfolk Southern are a huge asset to our railroad, our customers, and to the broader economy we support. We are grateful to have so many incredible veterans on the Thoroughbred team.”
Norfolk Southern employs more than 2,000 active and veteran service members, extending all the way up to the C-Suite and accounting for nearly 10 percent of the company’s workforce.
As part of its commitment to maintaining a veteran-friendly workplace, the company offers a veteran employee resource group, which provides an avenue for veterans to connect, support, and learn from one another, as well as a Career Skills Program, which assists transitioning members of the military as they begin to plan for civilian life. This allows veterans the opportunity to train at Norfolk Southern and develop necessary skills during their transition period.
Additionally, if veteran employees are called to active duty through the Reserves or National Guard, they can fulfill their military duties with assurance that Norfolk Southern jobs will await their return. The company also provides income supplements and continues existing health and life insurance coverage during Reserve duty, offering benefits beyond those required by law.
