From Alabama sheriff to rail safety champion: Matthew Wade’s journey with Norfolk Southern

For Rail Safety Week, Norfolk Southern is spotlighting Matthew Wade, a former Alabama sheriff whose decades-long commitment to protecting others now drives his work as an NS special agent and Community Impact Ambassador.

- Proven leadership: Wade served more than 30 years in law enforcement, including two terms as sheriff of Calhoun County and as president of the Alabama Sheriffs Association.
- Firsthand experience: His introduction to Norfolk Southern came during a derailment where he worked with NS Hazmat and special agents to respond with precision and care. The coordination left a lasting impression on him.
