Norfolk Southern is more than doubling its investment in the 2026 Trades on Track Scholarship, increasing funding from $100,000 to $250,000. In recognition of National Skilled Trades Day on May 6, applications are open now through September 1, 2026, to external applicants pursuing skilled trade programs across our 22-state network. .

Why it matters

Skilled trades help keep the railroad safe, reliable, and moving. As demand for hands-on, technical roles continues to grow, expanding access to training is more important than ever. The Trades on Track Scholarship helps remove barriers to education and connect more people to stable, in-demand careers.

Investing in the next generation of skilled professionals

This year, NS will award 50 scholarships worth $5,000 each, up from 20 scholarships in 2025. Funds may be used for tuition, tools, computer equipment, and other education-related expenses. The program is administered by SKILLED Nation and is open to external applicants, including new or current students and people looking to reskill or change careers.
