Norfolk Southern has more than 16,000 railcars exclusively for metals and construction shipping, including our revolutionary high-strength steel cars that offer greater capacity and lower emissions. Our superior rail network covers 22 Eastern states, and together with our hundreds of logistics partners, we can connect you to all of North America.  Each year, we ship enough steel to manufacture twice the number of cars made in the U.S.

Our metals team provides best-in-class shipping solutions for our customers in sheet metal and coiled steel; slabs, billets, rebar, structural steel, pipe, and plate; scrap, pig iron, DRI, HBI, and scrap substitutes; aluminum, zinc, lead, copper, and other specialty metals.

Construction

Our construction teams serves shippers and receivers of aggregates, cement, and concrete; limestone, roofing, gypsum, and brick; kaolin and clay; tractors, transformers, wind turbines, railroad equipment, and other large machinery; and military and government materials.
